Artist's Loft Downtown Seattle

This client desired a space where displaying art meets the art of living. Architect Nicolaas Wilkens created a design that deftly reimagines a modern space set within the historic downtown Seattle Fischer Studio apartment building. The unique layout sets the ‘squircle’ shaped kitchen at the center with the balance of the apartment encompassing. Curved wood veneer walls of the kitchen element extend into art display shelving in both the living area and the bedroom. Transom windows throughout the apartment interior allow light to traverse from room to room. The bathroom and kitchen elements are distinctly modern insertions into a classical perimeter. The living room offers a view onto the downtown streetscape while the bedroom has views towards the sound. This project is at times subtle and at times playful and bold in its design palette and design resolutions.
