Wallingford Addition

As an owner-architect, the client’s top priorities included adding a suite of improvements to extend the life of and utility of the existing 1910-era building, while staying in the beloved Wallingford neighborhood. At the exterior, a standing seam metal roof capped an exterior refresh with new aluminum-clad wood windows and siding. A new stair at the back of the home now connects the family’s main living areas with a set of cozy spaces in the newly-finished basement for guests, laundry, and quiet pursuits. Though compact in footprint, the owner-architect found opportunities to celebrate the craft of building through a rich material palette including Kebony siding and interior finishes such as clear-finished Hickory for stairs and flooring, and stained rough-sawn plywood. The resulting project captures the client’s vision for materials, space, and detail to deliver a truly unique setting for her family.
